Note From The CPC Chairman

Welcome Address by the Conference Planning Committee Chairman (CPC)

On behalf of the 2018 NAPE Conference Planning Committee, I would like to welcome you to the 36th NAPE Annual International Conference and Exhibition holding right here at Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos.

Over the next five days, I invite you to engage yourself in the conference Theme: “New Strategies for a Sustainable Petroleum Business in a Fluctuating Oil Price Regime” where a variety of technical and non-technical presentations will be presented and discussed during the conference.

We have lined up so many amazing programs for the conference including the Management Session, Pre-conference Workshop, Pre-conference Short Courses, All Convention Luncheon, Technical paper presentations, Exhibitions, Awards Night, Opening Cocktail and Fellows Appreciation Night, Opening Ceremony, African Night, President’ Night, etc.

Howbeit the Young professionals and students are not left out as we have exciting activities such as the Young Professional Leadership Forum, Basin Evaluation Competition, Simulated Mock Interview and Mentorship networking event.

Our Pre-conference Workshop this year will hold on Monday 19th November 2018 with the theme “Securing the Nigerian Economy with a Diversified Energy Mix”. The keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing. Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa and the twenty-second globally. It is projected that the economy could rise through the world rankings to top 10 in 2050 with a projected GDP of US$6.4 trillion. To achieve this however, diversification of the economy from over dependence on crude oil is required, particularly investments into other components of the world’s energy mix.

The Opening Ceremony will hold on Tuesday 20th November 2018 when the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu is expected to declare the conference and exhibition open.

The theme of the Management Session this year is: “Organic Growth in Nigeria Oil & Gas Industry: Next Phase; Where and How It Can Be Achieved”. No doubt, some of your past discourse had influenced the formulation and introduction of progressive policies and incentives to the benefits of the industry. We as a nation has been aspiring and working assiduously to grow our oil and gas reserves to 40Bn BOE for some time now -while this seems like a herculean task; I strongly believe it is achievable and within reach. The question is: Where will the next phase of organic growth come from? Join us as we rob minds on this crucial topic with the best industry professionals. Dr. Maikanti Baru, the Group Managing Director (GMD), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is expected to give the keynote address.

I invite you to devote plenty of time to the Exhibition, which showcases the latest developments and achievements in the Petroleum Exploration and Production as well as other industries from more than 50 companies and Institutions locally and internationally. It is an opportunity to see new products first hand and meet new contacts face-to-face.

A number of social events have also been lined up to provide opportunities for social interactions amongst participants. This includes, The African Night, to showcase the best and diversities of African culture; the Awards Night, an avenue for recognition of a number of our distinguished members, corporate sponsors and exhibitors.

On Thursday, 22nd November 2018, the last day of the Conference, I will be taking up the mantle of leadership as the President of NAPE during our Annual Awards and Recognition Night. The night will also feature the swearing-in of new Executive Committee. I plan to build on the great platform and achievements by current and past leaderships and follow a more calculated approach to achieve our target for 2019.

Lastly, I am convinced that the 2018 NAPE ICE will be a remarkable and memorable event for all delegates and corporate entities.  On behalf of the Conference Planning Committee, I would like to thank all those who have made this year’s Annual Conference and Exhibition a success.

Thank you again for being here. I know you will make the most of your time at this conference.
